de Vere's Irish Pub
Sacramento, California
What people say
I just wanted to thank you again on behalf of myself and my entire family for all your help in building our family pub. You stayed behind to finish the project and truly put the finishing touches on our pub. I will think of you often when I look around the pub at all the people that come to de Vere's for their small bit of happiness in this world. I will think of you when we have our first major party, when the kegs first sputter from running empty and the first night when I close down the bar. The end of a night has always been a special time for me. It is usually the first time in the night that I am able to slow down and reflect on all the people I had interactions with. I love to site with only a few lights on, a small scotch and listen to Frank Sinatra as I reflect. It will be at this moment that I will think of you, all the hard work and sacrifice that you put into this bar, and the friendships you made in such a short time. And all of your attempts to let everyone in Sacramento know that there was a “Real” Irish Pub in town. I will think of you and try to remind myself to keep it simple, with “happy smiling faces” throughout our pub. I look forward to visiting you in Ireland. Meeting your wife and looking out over your farm. I can’t wait to walk down to you local for a pint with you, and those you call family. I can only hope that I can return the favour and help you gave to me and my family someday. I hope I am able to do this when you come back to visit us here in your new home away from home. This favour will be returned when you saunter in through the front doors of de Vere’s Pub greeted with a cheerful hello and served a proper pint. I look forward to that day and can only hope that it is not too far from now. Until then, I thank you with all that I have. You sacrificed time with your family to help out mine and that debt is one that has started us on a path of friendship. I only hope that when you look back upon this, you realise that because of the time you sacrificed with your family, you only because closer to mine. Until we meet again, I thank you and wish you safe journeys upon the roads you still have to travel.
Henry de Vere White
